The 24.6 MW Waainek Wind Farm is located 6 km South West of Grahamstown, along the Highlands Road in the Makana Municipality in the Eastern Cape.

Owner: Waainek Wind Power(RF) (Pty) Ltd
Investors: EDF Renewables, Industrial Development Corporation and Waainek Winds of Change BBBEE Co.
Energy Offtaker: Eskom (Single Buyer Office)
EPC/O&M contractor: Vestas Southern Africa
Construction period: Approx. 16 months (September 2014 – January 2016)
Commercial operations: January 2016
No. of turbines: 8 x Vestas V112 – 3.075 MW turbines
Installed Capacity: 24.6 MW

Under the Grassroots Youth Development (GYD) Programme, the Waainek Wind Farm contributes up to 2.1 % of its revenues towards Socio-Economic and Enterprise Development initiatives that are located within a 50 km radius to the wind facility.
